The inside of the Metropolitan Pavilion West looked a lot like a fashion show on April 15, when a room full of young professionals in chic suits and colorful dresses turned out for The Trevor Project’s spring fundraiser, A Night Out For Trevor. The 17-year old organization devoted to crisis intervention and suicide prevention for LGBTQ youth is growing its presence in New York City, and plenty of volunteers were on hand to discuss their involvement with the organization including the training that goes into being a counselor on the 24/7 Lifeline.

Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty accepted an Ally Award, presented by Trevor Board Member (and former So You Think You Can Dance judge) Adam Shankman, for his involvement in the LGBTQ community. Thomas made some remarks about the cause including how important it is for him to “speak out for common sense where it doesn’t exist,” before playing an intimate acoustic set for the crowd, accompanied by that gorgeous full-bodied voice of his. The night also included food from local restaurants, drinks and a silent auction, but judging by the buzz of the audience, the crowd was eager to mingle. The night ended with DJs sets, rainbow light up hula hoops and, of course, dancing.
