With the release of Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not, the original trio of Dinosaur Jr. has now recorded more albums as a reunited band than they did in their first run. While You’re Living All Over Me and Bug are still considered the classics, they now have a whole other generation of fans, making their popularity arguably higher than it’s ever been. There’s a growing audience for all of their new releases and furthermore, their new releases are still really good.

Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not is everything you want from a Dinosaur Jr. album. It’s loud and noisey, but also plenty melodic, with tons of J Mascis’ unique guitar heroics all over the place. The album opens with the riff-party “Goin Down” and reaches it’s heavy peak with “I Walk For Miles.” There are also excellent pop-rock tunes like “Tiny” and “Lost All Day,” the latter of which sounds like a lost mid-90’s track, and I mean that in a good way. “Be a Part” and the Lou Barlow-penned “Love Is…” are both solid ballads, but one of the best songs is “Knocked Around,” which starts mellow before going for a big rock ending. The moment where that transition happens is one of the most satisfying moments on the album. Whether you’ve been a fan since they were just called Dinosaur or you jumped on after the reunion, all fans of the band will be satisfied with this album.
