The Darkness @ Irving Plaza, 10/27/15
“We are the motherfucking Darkness from the mother fucking UK†exclaims front man and borderline mad man Justin Hawkins a fews songs into the set before launching back head first into the high voltage rock and roll the band is known for. While at times the night seemed to drag on, which was in no way helped by the lack of dynamics within the group, the antics and anomalous humor of Hawkins more than made up for these short comings. From stage diving to tossing microphones into the crowd, Hawkins made sure the audience was on their toes and having fun every second of the night, which reflected the high energy of the music flawlessly. The set itself was comprised of fan favorites such as  “Get Your Hands Off My Woman,†“One Way Ticket,†and to nobody’s surprise “I Believe In A Thing Called Love.†As well as a host of tunes off the groups latest effort Last Of Our Kind, along with and an unexpected Radiohead cover. A man (if he is wise or not is up for interpretation) once said rock is dead. Thankfully, it’s bands like The Darkness that are here to tell you loud and very clear that it is not only alive but well. As another man once said, you can’t reinvent the wheel, but you can definitely roll it.
