Hands down, you have got to go see Annapurna at the Acorn Theatre, Theatre Row, 410 W 42nd St. This stellar 90-minute-no-intermission 2-person one-act produced by The New Group is going to run your emotions roughshod, leave you laughing as much as crying and have you rethinking your views on sitcom actors for ever more.

Real life husband and wife Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman truly kick Sharr White’s interplay-of-a-play into high gear, from the quick opening moments of hilarity, to some great dramatic turns, to startling edge-of-your-seat riding sadness (especially from Offerman whose “Ulysses” is certainly the more physically distraught of the pair). I’m not about to tip my hat to what is revealed or even how it is, just take it from me, this is well worth your hour and half…and then some.

Mullally, best known for her busty high-voiced “Karen Walker” character on the sitcom Will & Grace and Offerman, from starring presently on Parks and Recreation, first starred in this play last year in L.A. and have brought it here to NYC, and it’s a freaking must-see. With subtle direction by Bart DeLorenzo (basically I’d say getting out of these two monstrously talented actors’ way) and a truly claustrophobic clutter of a wonderful set by Thomas A. Walsh, the way we learn about these two people, their deep ache for one another in the face of monumentally bad decisions and impending possibilities sure to change their lives tenfold, is masterful.

Great writing, great acting, great directing…just about great everything. Go see Annapurna.

Annapurna is currently playing at the Acorn Theatre, Theatre Row, 410 W 42nd St. through June 1, 2014. You can purchase tickets here.
