THE TOP 5: Manhattan Bars With Games

It seems like everywhere you look these days, another bowling alley has crept up. For those of you that can barely muster up a spare, let alone a strike, here are some other bar game options paired with drinks and snacks to make a night of it. While the neighboring boroughs have many fun options as well, these are the best that the Manhattan borough has to offer.

Bleecker Street Bar (56-58 Bleecker Street)
This college-crowd-meets-hipster hangout is the best of all worlds as it includes three dart boards, a separate room with three pool tables, and the perfect date bonus: a photo booth. The space can get fairly crowded on weekends, but it’s worth it for the eclectic beer selection of nearly 20 beers on tap.  For more information: http://www.bleeckerstreetbarnyc.com/

Fat Cat (75 Christopher at 7th Avenue)
If it’s ping pong and foosball tournaments that you’re looking for, this is the place to scope out. If you prefer board games, those can be found here as well. A full bar and live jazz music are an added bonus, but to get details on gaming, check out the website for specifics as each day varies: http://www.fatcatmusic.org/

Grassroots Tavern (20 Saint Marks Place)
This hole-in-the-wall bar is easy to miss, but once you step inside the basement bar, you will appreciate it for what it really is: a dive bar with a good beer selection and a perfectly laid back ambiance. While the only game option here is darts in the very back of the bar, the rest of the bar displays old trophies to give you that nice 80’s-basement sort of feel. Harry’s Water Taxi (89 South Street)
Unfortunately, this is not the season for this seaport locale, but once spring hits, you’d better hit up this man-made beach with a date. In addition to the delicious eats such as fish tacos, burgers, and pina coladas, this paradise boasts a simple miniature golf course and ping pong table.  For more information: http://www.watertaxibeach.com/

Spin (48 East 23rd Street)
This trendy Flatiron table tennis space, co-owned by Susan Sarandon, is open to members and non-members, though it is not cheap for either. The beer selection is lacking but the food at the attached Ducks Eatery features inventive snacks including various flavored popcorns, hotdogs, and tacos.  For more information: http://www.spinyc.com/
